School Holiday Tips

It's easy to get frustrated and frazzled during school holidays. The children are always underfoot demanding attention and you have twice as much work to do with them home. So instead of getting hot under the collar, cool it and get some help from your local YMCA, who provide family friendly places to meet and activities for the kids. No one should have to raise children alone, and the YMCA run programmes to help nurture family ties.

Children love activities and they need not cost the earth. Playing in the park or the beach or going for walks around the neighbourhood are all great pre-school activities and will provide ways to let them use up all their energy and not too much of yours. You may be able to share baby-sitting with another family for a cost free break.

If you have a back yard, then getting the kids into gardening can keep them happy and busy for hours. Don't worry about a little dirt - keep old clothes for their gardening forays. Kids love snacks and if they can snack on something they grew themselves they will be delighted and healthier. Cherry tomatoes are fairly quick to fruit; beans and peas make tasty snacks too.
