Having fun in Tsim Sha Tsui
Tsim Sha Tsui is the heart and soul of Hong Kongs shopping and fashion. This prosperous commercial area is situated on southern edge of the Kowloon Peninsula. Despite there being a large number of different shopping and entertainment districts in Hong Kong, Tsim Sha Tsui is one of the most popular and also the most vibrant.
When visiting sim Sha Tsui expect a highly concentrated street of shops, congested walkways filled with pedestrians and roads choked with traffic. Of course all of these are essentials of any good shopping district and ardent shoppers take this hustle and bustle in their stride.
Before Hong Kong was ceded to the British in 1842, this area consisted mainly of villages and was in particular famous for the growth of Incense Trees which spawned the Fragrant Quay for this area. During the late 19th century Tsim Sha Tsui was a garden city meant exclusively for the British, however during the 20th century these regulations were relaxed and a number of Chinese nationals moved in for trade purposes. Gradually the expansive garden houses were replaced with much more space efficient residential blocks and apartments.
Tsim Sha Tsui is the place to head to if you are looking for exotic restaurants in Hong Kong. Hillwood Road and the northern end of the Observatory Hill have a great selection of restaurants that offer food from all corners of the globe. In addition many of the major museums in Hong Kong are located here, the museums of Art, History, Science, Space and the Hong Kong Cultural Centre are just a few.
For tourists another important attraction here is the clear unobstructed view across the beautiful Victoria Harbor of the Central area, which is particularly breathtaking at night. A hotel in Hong Kong that is located close to these attractions is Hotel Jen, it offers great accommodation and amazing access.
