Inflation Argentina - NEW ARGENTINA INFLATION INDEX
Whilst the Argentine Government buries its head in the sand ignoring inflation that again dogs the Argentine economy, we bring you a New Argentina Inflation Index to replace the 'neutered' INDEC. The 'independent' government statistical unit that now seems to tows the 'party line.'
Argentine People's Empty Pockets Index or APEPI (known to Mafalda, our Argentine Economics guru as a-pee-pee).
Our statistical analysis charts salary increases in both the public and private sectors and some of the more important costs of living in Buenos Aires - "pooh-pooh us, too regional? We think our 'back of the fag-packet' analysis is far more reliable than official figures and really sets a new standard of economics reporting," said, the still five-year-old Mafalda.
The APEPI charts a 21% cost increases that affect the Argentine Peoples' pockets in Buenos Aires and those who travel to Buenos Aires. Tellingly, powerful Argentine forces offer a more realistic 'inflationary-vane;' we feel the government's hike in bus and taxi fares strongly indicates real inflationary pressures. 'Daddy said that taxi drivers got a proper increase in earnings because taxis can bring the City of Buenos Aires to a standstill,' Said Mafalda.
Still feeling the pain and smarting from the 'Campo-Cattle-Prod' the government must still wonder how public coffers might keep pace with costs in a slowing economy that now faces a fall in worldwide consumption and the inevitable knock-on fall in commodity prices. However, these rather insignificant problems do not seem to present a dilemma to the Government of Argentina.
